Interested in learning new languages?

Now available — Jasper Municipal Library and Norquest College are pleased to offer a FREE interactive language learning resource online. Interactive English – Volume 1 uses real-life scenarios set in a Canadian context to help new Canadians and ESL learners develop their listening and reading skills, vocabulary and cultural literacy. It is designed for classroom teachers, community tutors and self-starting language learners.                                    

 Here’s how to get started: 

1) Go to www.norquest.ca/interactive_english

2) In the toolbar at the top of the page, click Log In

3) Your username is 177

4) Your  password is 2010 

View the Tutorial, or click on Stories and choose from the five options available. Each story gives you the opportunity to watch, read, then review and practice.  

You may go as fast or as slow as you need.  

Interactive English: Volume 1 contains additional resources and ideas for teachers and tutors.

The Tell Me More program is offered free to members of the Jasper Municipal Library through The Alberta Library. With their current library card and password members can set up an account and start learning French, Spanish, Italian, Dutch, German and English. The program includes listening and reading components. If you have a microphone, you can also participate in the vocal practice sessions which include pronunciation feedback. To sign up click here and enter your library barcode number and PIN. 

 

Looking for FOIP training?

To increase awareness of the Freedom of Information and Protection of Privacy Act of Alberta, the Alberta Government has created FOIP: Focus on Privacy. This online, interactive course “focuses on FOIP issues most relevant to the day-to-day activities of public body employees.” 
 

Would you like to learn, or improve, your basic computer skills?

The Online Lifelong Learning Initiative includes a 10 part basic computer skills series of modules. The program is accessible through your standard web browser and also requires the free Flash Player. The modules include both sound and text captions. The program was developed by the Council for Innovation and Learning Regina with support from the Government of Canada and other partners. It is currently hosted and maintained by CBAS Services Ltd.
