Hello TeenRCers,

10 books enter the battle field, but only one book will stand victorious — TeenRC’s Book Battle Royale has just begun!!  (yup…it *is* kind of like The Hunger Games!).

This year, Edmonton Public Library has spearheaded a Book Battle Royale on the TeenRC site and all TeenRC member libraries are invited to join in on the fun and help us promote this program to your teens (see poster attached)!  The battle begins on July 26 and runs through to the end of August.  Each week, teens will be invited to vote 2 books out of the Battle, until only one title remains at the end. Every week, they will also have a chance to express themselves through mini-challenges in the forums:

    * Week One: meet the books, give us your impressions, place your bets!

    * Week Two: Step into the battle and get into character; who is most like you, who do you most want to be like, who would you not want to meet in a dark alley…

    * Week Three: Battle Crossover…put a character from one book into another, change the setting, mix it up.

    * Week Four: Express yourself! Here’s your chance to celebrate the books with your own creations: writing, poetry, music lyrics, visual art, diary entries.

    * Week Five: Everyone loves an award show!  Vote for Best Couple/Team, Best Villain, Best Action, Most heartbreaking moment, Best Kiss, Best Fight, and Most Shocking Twist.

    * And the grand finale: After the feathers fly and the dust settles, who remains?  Who is our Book Battle Royale Champion?

It doesn’t end there. Throughout the whole challenge, teens can stop into our Fan Fiction Story Experiment, which invites teens from across the country to write their own story together, 50 words at a time!  This cross-country creation will be complete by the end of the summer and available for all to see!

Free application enables wireless audiobook downloads on iPhone, iPad, and iPod touch from public libraries.

OverDrive (www.overdrive.com) has announced the availability of OverDrive’s free audiobook application for iPhone®, iPad^TM, and iPod touch®. With OverDrive® Media Console^TM for iPhone, users can now wirelessly download MP3 audiobooks from to their Apple® device.

How to get it:

Option 1. Open the App store on your iPhone or iPod Touch and search for ‘OverDrive Media Console’ to download the application directly.

Option 2. Open the iTunes store on your computer, search for ‘OverDrive Media Console’, download the app, and then synchronize it to your iPhone/iPod Touch.

Option 3. Go to http://www.overdrive.com/software/omc/, select the iPhone version and then click on the ‘Available in App Store’ button. This will bring you out to a preview website and also launch the iTunes store to let you download on your computer and then synchronize your device.

How to use it:

1. Once the OverDrive Media Console for iPhone is downloaded, you can’t use it to search for titles.  You need to open up a webpage on your iPhone or iPod Touch and go to trac.lib.overdrive.com.  This is a mobile friendly version of TRAC’s OverDrive page where you can search for titles.  

Remember: you can only download MP3 titles to your iPhone or IPod Touch using the OverDrive Media Console for iPhone. 

2.  In the search feature you can click the link “View all OverDrive MP3 Audiobook TItles” which will bring up all the MP3 titles.  Alternatively, you can search by title or browse by subject, just keep in mind the MP3 limitation.

3. Once you found a title you would like, you must login and check it out as you would normally do on your computer.  

4. Then, when you click the prompt to download the title, OverDrive Media Console for iPhone will open automatically!  From there you can download it directly onto your iPhone/iPod Touch and it will be ready to listen to in mere moments!
